Max Max: Fury Road movie review

This review is unsolicited. I bought a ticket to watch this.

I was still young to appreciate when George Miller introduced first introduced Max Max in 1979. I only got to be aware of Max Max on it's third movie, Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome when it was released in 1985. I got to watch the first two movies on local channels when it was aired.

It's been thirty years since Thunderdome and Mad Max is back but this time, Mel Gibson passed the wheel to Tom Hardy in Mad Max: Fury Road which is the fourth installment. To understand the pulp action genre of Mad Max, here's a little background.

Mad Max is set in a post-apocalyptic, dystopian society where Australia suffered a major energy crisis. Max Rockatansky a.k.a. Mad Max is describe as the lone warrior on wheels similar to a ronin or masterless samurai or a gunman in Western movies.

Mad Max is not the type of character that is heroic. The problem is that trouble always finds him. But if you messed with him, you will see the land you stand on burns. In Fury Road, Max is once again caught in conflict with another tyrant who controls the resources while the people starves.

This is the reason why I described George Miller's world of Mad Max as dystopian because it somehow mirrors the real world. The director/creator also has a background as a doctor serving in a hospital so he saw the same horrors that reflected in all his Mad Max movies.

This movie is really good to watch but not to be watched when you are tired because you might end up sleeping and this movie should be enjoyed. Also, this is not the movie for children to watch. My next question is, will the revival of Mad Max be enough to make another installment or should we wait another thirty years. The movie is a stand alone story but with a quick flashback on Max's past.

If you are familiar with Mad Max, it is worth spending 230 Pesos but if you haven't seen any Mad Max, wait for the premiere at HBO. For more movie reviews, follow this blog and like L.E.N.S. blogs on Facebook.
