Star Trek: Beyond movie review
The adventures of the semi-reboot/alternate timeline of the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise continues. After the success of Star Trek: Into Darkness, I am glad that J.J. Abrams is doing a good job of this sequel. Here are some points I listed for my review.
- It's within the 5-year mission of the U.S.S. Enterprise. The original series was introduced the Enterprise during their 5-year mission.
- Because of J.J, Abrams, Star Trek followed a pattern after Mission: Impossible. Just like Star Trek: Into Darkness, the setting of the story is a mission of the Enterprise when it was about end and followed by another one which is the central story of the movie.
- It is still sci-fi but it focused on the action.
- There is still exploration involved.
- There are new species that is not introduced in the original series.
- The last we will see of the character Pavel Chekov. We know Anton Yelchin died recently. J.J. Abrams said there will be no replacement for Chekov in the next movie which is a good thing. In the original series, Chekov was introduced in the latter part of the series.
- The uniforms have shoulder padding now. They also introduced a new environmental suit that is not in the original series.
- IMAX format is also a good option to watch with.
Overall, it is still a nice movie to see even though some purist Trekkies don't like the reboot. But it brought new generations of fans to this longest running sci-fi franchise. For more movie reviews, follow this blog and like L.E.N.S. blogs on Facebook. Viewed last July 19 at SM Megamall IMAX.
