THE NUN movie review
After the scary debut in The Conjuring 2, the demonic nun
Valak now has an origin movie to expand The Conjuring Universe. After the Annabelle
movies, The Nun is the latest addition that will show where Valak came from.
The movie sets in a castle turned abbey for nuns where a nun
committed hanged herself outside the window. The Vatican sent a priest to
investigate along with a novice.
What I like about The Nun is that there are revelations or ‘easter
eggs’ that were unveiled in the movie that can connect to the cases of
paranormal investigator Ed and Lorraine Warren’s cases in The Conjuring movies.
Just like the Annabelle movies, The Nun is also a spinoff
and fictitious. The Conjuring movies though are real stories based on the
Warrens’ paranormal investigations. In addition to the easter eggs, I also like
the new characters Father Burke (played by Demian Bichir) and the novitiate
Sister Irene (played by Taissa Farmiga) has potential to be used in The
Conjuring movies. A team up with the Warrens would be cool.
That is only my wishful thinking. The scare factor in the
movie is not much compared to The Conjuring movies because there is still something about James Wan that is not
found in Corin Hardy’s direction of The Nun.
There are more cases of the Warrens that are yet to be
adapted into the movies. I am looking forward to the next The Conjuring movie.
