“JACK THE GIANT SLAYER” GROSSES P52-M, OPENS AT NO.1 IN PHL
MANILA,
March 4 -- Warner Bros. pulled off a gigantic opening for its 3D
fantasy adventure “Jack the Giant Slayer,” grossing a monumental P52-M
nationwide to open at No. 1 for the Feb. 28 to March 3 period, and
posting the year’s biggest opening weekend to-date.
This was announced by Francis Soliven, General Manager of Warner Bros. Philippines.
The
epic action spectacle from filmmaker Bryan Singer and starring Nicholas
Hoult also broke two more records in its path – the year’s highest
first-four day gross industry-wide and Warner’s most successful launch
so far for 2013.
“Jack the Giant Slayer’s” phenomenal bow in the country mirrored the film’s
blockbuster opening in the US and North America where it also debuted at
No.1 with $28-M.
Locally,
the largest share of gross receipts were contributed by SM Mall of Asia
with P3.95-M, Trinoma with P2.52-M and SM Cebu with P1.75-M.
Also
in the Top 10 cinemas are SM North EDSA (P1.704-M), SM Megamall
(P1.702-M), Glorietta 4 (P1.54-M), Greenbelt 3 (P1.50-M), Alabang Town
Center (P1.43-M), Newport (P1.37-M) and Eastwood (P1.22-M).
Rounding
up the Top 20 theaters are Power Plant (P1.14-M), Gateway (1.04-M), SM
Clark (P901,782), Market! Market! (P867,640), SM Fairview (P822,356),
Ayala Cebu (P818,072), Gaisano Davao (P809,122), SM Lanang (P805,952),
Robinsons Magnolia (P781,935), SM Iloilo (P705,912) and Theatremall
(P685,440).
In
“Jack the Giant Slayer,” an ancient war is reignited when a young
farmhand unwittingly opens a gateway between our world and a fearsome
race of giants.
Unleashed
on the Earth for the first time in centuries, the giants strive to
reclaim the land they once lost, forcing the young man, Jack (Hoult),
into the battle of his life to stop them. Fighting for a kingdom and
its people, and the love of a brave princess, he comes face to face with
the unstoppable warriors he thought only existed in legend… and gets
