Background: The Wolverine first appeared November 1974 in Incredible Hulk comics issue 181 as the first Canadian superhero before he became part of the X-Men.
What makes Wolverine an interesting character is that he has tendency to be an anti-hero meaning he can also be bordering neither a hero or villain. After the first appearance, he was just simply called Wolverine instead of The Wolverine.
As an X-Man, Wolverine best represents the anger against humanity's hatred of mutants that borders between the philosophy of Professor X and Magneto. He was the resident berserker. The uncontrollable rage that not even team leader Cyclops nor Professor X able to contain.
It was the movies that removed Wolverine's yellow spandex and using a team uniform. Even in this solo feature of the character, he look swell in civilian clothing just like in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The story may be new in the movies but comic book fans are aware about Wolverine in Japan.
The X-men movies didn't boost much attention similar to the Avengers but it was the first Marvel Comics super team that came to life. It was only in X-Men Origins that started to build up favorable attention and kept the continuity in First Class.
It is actually a great movie to find out more about his concealed past and character development. The movie also introduced new mutants as well but with cameos from the old ones. Don't leave during the credits as an extra scene will unfold for the next movie. The Wolverine is distributed and released by Twentieth Century Fox.
