Guardians Of The Galaxy movie review

The Guardians of The Galaxy is not the Marvel teams that I expected to be adapted in the cineverse when it was first announced. There are other teams or characters that needed to come to life. I was expecting to expand Earth's heroes like Dr. Strange because they need someone that varies in abilities especially in occult expertise.

Since Marvel movies has a long-range plan since Phase 1, they know what's best. Guardians are ideal choice for the expanding Marvel Cineverse since they are considered the Avengers in outer space now that they know they can have threats from beyond the planet Earth.

I like the role of the Guardians in the Marvel Cineverse. It's like high school. The Avengers are the jocks while the Guardians are the underdogs. James Gunn did a wonderful job for the Guardians movie. It didn't look like a superhero story but they fought Marvel villains Ronan the Accuser and Nebula. It is like watching a new sci-fi story.

Here are my notes about the characters. Star-Lord, a.k.a. Peter Quill looks bad-ass than his original appearance. His mask is not just a display but part of his arsenal. He is not like any hero since he provides comic relief but he is also the team leader. I knew Chris Pratt in comedy movies. He did quite a good job for  the role and this time, he is not a supporting character.

Gamora is played by Zoe Saldana which is a good choice but she is like her character in The Losers years ago but with more solo fighting scenes. She is really the dangerous woman in the universe. Professional wrestler Dave Bautista is the ideal for Drax the Destroyer since he has the same built and his fight scenes are not just wrestling matches. Both their make-up effects are well done.

But the most memorable characters I never expect to like was Rocket Racoon and Groot. Although most of the Guardians here are tough as nails but these two provides the laugh and the muscle. What ironic about Rocket was that even though he is small, he knows how to use his guns and the guns he uses are usually bigger. Groot also provides memorable moments even though he only says, "I am Groot". He has powers I never imagine and he is not just an over-sized plant. A minor concern that Marvel hired a big-budgeted actor to voice over with only three words said in the duration of the movie.

For the other characters, Ronan is not my favorite villain but he proves quite an adversary for this movie. It's about time a Kree finally appeared after an "easter egg" in the past. Nebula is also quite an adversary and was shown just as sadistic in an action-packed kind of way.

The Nova Corps. is just like the intergalactic police force as I imagined. What I want to find out is what is the background story of Yondu in the movie timeline. But I like how they change his weapons of choice instead of a bow and arrow to make a distinction from Hawkeye. The Collector looks exactly like in the comic books.

As expected in any Marvel movie, there are more "easter eggs" for you to see It is also customary to stay after the credits a post-credit scene. Now the countdown to Avengers: Age of Ultron begins.
