Rogue One: A Star Wars Story movie review part 1
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story took place before Episode IV. It
was not included in the Star Wars episodes because this was not about the
Jedis. It is about how the doomsday weapon called the Death Star was created
and how a band of Rebel intelligence operatives stole the schematics of the Death
Star.
What makes this story unique was we are introduced to
Captain Cassian Andor, an intelligence officer for the Rebellion. For the first time, the rebels show their
first secret agent. I see Andor as a cold, vicious and ruthless like the Sean Connery type
of James Bond.
The situation and mission of Andor is similar to those back
in the days of World War II and the Cold War because both wars were the
advancement of warfare between the two opposing sides. Diego Luna was a good
choice of actor. I didn’t know much about his previous movie credits, but he
delivered a strong character to the story.
Andor was not chivalrous but he will make sure the mission succeeds
whatever the cost.
This movie also shows another faction of rebel extremists
that diverts from the Alliance. It shows that not all rebels are alike whether
you are within the Alliance or the extremist faction. It also parallels the
extremists groups today. This is the rebel group Jyn Erso (played by Felicity Jones)
is connected.
This new rag tag team of rebels is totally diverse. But if you ask me, I like this new line up. One is a rebel intelligence officer, an
extremist, a monk with his gung-ho companion, a defected Imperial cargo pilot, a reprogrammed Imperial
droid. In addition to Jyn and Cassian, K2 is a strong reprogrammed droid with a
smart aleck attitude. It always says a lot about everything. Most of the comic
punch lines come from K2.
