PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN:SALAZAR'S REVENGE movie review
It’s been about six years since the last Pirates Of The
Caribbean movie which I thought will be the last because it is not as awesome
as the first three movies. But we can’t get enough of Jack Sparrow. Originally
created as a supporting character, Johnny Depp made it outrageous that gives
great appeal to the audiences.
But I am glad there is a sequel since there was a scene at
the end of the credits of Pirates of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.
Unfortunately this is not connected to that. So I consider the last movie as a
spin-off.
In Salazar’s Revenge (Dead Men Tell No Tales in U.S.
release), it can be considered a stand-alone story even if you didn’t watch On
Stranger Tides. Salazar’s Revenge seems like a story in the Pirates universe
that is starting a new story arc. The first story arc was the first three
movies which were dubbed as the Will Turner arc. Will Turner was supposed to be
the main protagonist but when they saw the potential of Depp’s performance of
Jack Sparrow, they are now considered equal along with Elizabeth Swann.
In this movie, we are now introduced to new characters. The
sailor in His Majesty’s Royal British Navy, Henry and the astronomer Carina
Smyth. I thought that Philip, the new
character in the previous movie On Stranger Tides, will be the new recurring
character after Will Turner. But On Stranger Tides is only one shot. But in
this latest movie, I think Carina and Henry will be the new recurring
characters.
Henry is a sailor and is knowledgeable in the myths and
legends of the sea. Carina’s knowledge of the stars can also prove useful. Just
like Elizabeth Swann, Carina’s skills is unparalleled by any man. It is good
that the characters are still inclusive. Carina’s skills are more of academic
while Elizabeth’s is more of stealth which makes the two different. Too bad, we
won’t see Angelica, the former love of Jack Sparrow. It would make it really
interesting.
The new antagonist is Salazar the pirate hunter. It’s good
to have a character like him from Jack Sparrow’s past. Salazar is a good
addition to the rogues’ gallery in Pirates. His Spanish accent sounds really
heavy like he belongs to that time period.
As for Hector Barbossa, the former nemesis and eternal rival
but occasional ally of Jack, he is like a different character now. He is still
a fierce pirate but he changed when he started the quest in this movie.
The movie is a good sequel that follows after the original
arc. If you haven’t seen any Pirates of the Caribbean movie, now it the best
time to start. For more geeky movie reviews, follow this blog and like https://www.facebook.com/LENSblogs/ .
