RIP The Avengers' Patrick Macnee

Patrick Macnee is better known to baby boomers as John Steed in the 1961 British spy TV series The Avengers, not to be confused with the superhero group because the British were the first to use it. The Avengers TV series became one of the popular cult series for the longest time because it shows British eccentricity.

I got to watch it on a local UHF channel years ago. The Avengers showed that they can save the world in style. John Steed fights his enemies with his British suit, bowler hat and his umbrella. His various partners were women that are ahead of their time and they were just as stylish as well as strong willed and assertive.

Patrick Macnee died June 25 at age 93 at his home in Rancho Mirage, California. If only I have a British suit and bowler hat in a formal event but that will be expensive. For more news in popular culture, follow this blog and like L.E.N.S. blogs on Facebook.
