Disney/Pixar's Inside Out Directors is in the Phils. to promote their latest full-length feature
I was privilege to get invited to attend the press conference of the animation directors who's in the country as part of their tour in Asia.
Inside Out earned $630M in U.S. and will be shown in the Philippines on Aug. 19. For director Pete Docter, Inside Out is something that they haven't done before. It is familiar but new. For this production, Pixar had 270 animators/artists worked for this project. Among them is co-director Ronnie del Carmen.
Ronnie started working for Pixar in 1989. Since there are Pinoy animators employed at Pixar, they named their group, PixNoys. For their past times, they eat and organize charity drives like auctions. Ronnie himself is a movie fan and watches movies here in the Philippines before migrated to the U.S. After watching some of Pixar's previous works, he decided he wanted to work there. Ronnie was the story supervisor of Disney/Pixar's Up.

For Pete and Ronnie, to come up with a good story for a project; they try to put their humanity in their stories.whether they are bugs cars, etc. For Inside Out, Pete integrated his experience when he was Riley's age. Riley is one of the characters of Inside Out.
For casting the actors, they let them talk and try to hear their characters come to life in their minds and will soon know and say, "That's our Joy"(one of the main characters in Riley's emotions). Pete is glad to have Amy Poehler and Bill Hader on board because they are also writers.
Here a little trivia. Pete also uses his daughter Ellie as model for Riley when she was eleven years ago. Inside Out started production five years ago. Ellie's now 16 and saw the movie and told her Dad, "Cool movie". Pete also voiced as one of the emotions in Riley's Dad's head.
I am so looking forward to watch Inside Out this 19th. Follow this blog and like L.E.N.S. blogs on Facebook for my movie review.
