In The Heart Of The Sea movie review

For those who are familiar with Herman Melville's Moby Dick, it is a work of fiction but based on a true story. Melville uses the sperm whale and Captain Ahab as symbols. Ahab represents obsession while the whale Moby Dick represents an obstacle or conquest.

But Moby Dick is based on a true story. The story of the crew of Essex is far different from the novel. I like the way the story was told in a manner of flashbacks and the setting story is simultaneously developing until it ended.

Chris Hemsworth may still remind you of being Thor but thanks to director Ron Howard, it removed that stigma. Not only that, I also enjoyed some familiar actors in the movie like Cillian Murphy, Ben Whishaw, and Benjamin Walker. All whom have familiar pop culture references.

But the best part of the movie was the IMAX 3D experience. It makes your eyes think you will be drowning in the sea. But the best part is witnessing how menacing a sperm whale can be even though it is made up of CGI.

For this week, I recommend this movie since it's not only directed by Ron Howard but the story has substance and it shows why whale hunting is business when it is now considered unlawful here in the Philippines but there are underground operations in whaling.

The story of the Essex is also considered part of maritime history because of what the crew endured to survive. I enjoyed watching it in IMAX theater in SM Megamall in 3D. For more reviews, follow this blog and like L.E.N.S. blogs on Facebook.
