About Time movie review

Story: A romantic comedy about a young man who uses his ability to time travel to win over the woman he loves.

Review: I am a huge fan of the screenwriter Richard Curtis. I watched all his hits since Four Weddings & A Funeral. My favorite is Love, Actually and it's been years since his last work. If you are familiar with his earlier works, there is a usual pattern in his movies.

First, it has to be set in Britain. Second, there is the usual group of comical friends. Third, the romance is usually between a British guy and an American girl. Lastly, Hugh Grant is always in his movies. In this movie, the last one is not in this pattern but Bill Nighy is in this movie.

What made me appeal to Mr. Curtis work is the British humor. It is different from the Hollywood comedies. It is smart, sometimes mature and mostly happened during conversations. Bill Nighy also has share of humor and he is a great actor.

The American this time was Rachel McAdams. She may not be new to comedies but she was able to get a first shot of Brit humor. For Domhnall Gleeson, it is quite refreshing to see a new lead besides Hugh Grant. It will lessen to predict the protagonist when you have a familiar actor in the lead.  Overall, I enjoyed the movie and I recommend its simplicity even though it has sci-fi element in it.
