Evil Dead(2013) Movie Review

When I first heard that the cult classic Evil Dead is being remake, I have mixed feelings about it. The Evil Dead movie series was a groundbreaking hit in 1981 despite its low budget quality(B Movie). It throttled director Sam Raimi in success before he did Spider-Man and he was a week shy on his 22nd birthday and actor/co-producer Bruce Campbell in stardom. Evil Dead and Campbell's character Ash Williams became an iconic figure in pop culture. Stephen King said it was one of his favorites.

The remake actually made me worried that it will be a new look for the Evil Dead. It was a differently made movie. Nevertheless, I was proven wrong after watching it. It turned out quite interesting for the newer audience. Unlike the original, it really is a full horror flick which eliminated the comic factor.

The main reason I can think of for this newer version is to develop new audience to appreciate the cult movie. I believe it still brought justice to Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell. A movie like this is not complete without WATCHING after the CREDITS. During media/press screening, it was only the fans who are familiar with the cult movie that patiently waited after the credits for the small revelation. Evil Dead is showing exclusively at Ayala Malls WITHOUT CUTS. Evil Dead is distributed and released by Columbia Pictures.
