The Pirates movie review
When we hear the word pirate, we are
reminded of 18th Century bandits of the oceans armed with muskets
but piracy very generic whether you are from the East or West; piracy has its
place in history and still active in most parts of the globe.
The pirates here are not like Blackbeard,
Jack Sparrow or any swashbuckler known in popular
culture. It is set in 16th Century Korea. Asia is no stranger in
piracy because trading is usually done between countries in Asia. Just like its
Western counterparts, the Asian pirates are no different.
Even though it is a periodical movie, it is
still entertaining since the fight scenes and stunts are done like the Hong
Kong stuntmen do and one fight sequence have bullet-time action. There is still
some comedy in some of the scenes and the main actors are as good looking as
those who appeared in Korean groups sensations.
I didn’t raise any expectations about this movie
but I never thought I enjoyed watching it. The Pirates is exclusively shown at
SM Cinemas. Viewed at SM Megamall Director’s Club last October 20.
